To Mom, With Love

To Mom, With Love

Mother's Day is fast approaching, and, once again, you are struggling to find the perfect way to celebrate a perfect human being. The stress begins to set in. The sweat starts to form. That little hamster in your head is running faster and faster on his little wheel. Think. Think!

Let me stop you right there. There's no need to panic, no need to fear, no need to spend the next few days on the verge of a mental breakdown only to end up grabbing a gift card last minute. I am here today to help you plan the perfect day to shower your mother in all the glory she deserves. (And, yes, you can take all the credit.)

     1. Brunch

I'm not sure how or when brunch became the meal for certain holidays and special occasions, but I do know that it has become so popular that people are willing to wait hours in line to essentially eat second breakfast (if you get this reference, you're my new best friend), and, honestly, I don't blame them. Downtown Woodstock harbors some fantastic selections of brunch menus. If you're looking for a classic, diner-style brunch, J. Christopher's is the ideal spot for a cup of coffee, some fluffy pancakes (or waffles), and, my personal favorite, the brunch essential, the Eggs Benedict. If you prefer something with a little more Southern flare, Freight Kitchen + Tap has got you covered. With crispy chicken and waffles, Cajun shrimp and cheddar grits, and so much more, Freight is sure to give you that home-cooked feel and hit the spot with delicious comfort food. In need of something on the fancier side? No worries, Prime 120 is sure to wow and provide you with a delectable meal. Or, perhaps, you just want something chill and laid-back. If that's the case I recommend you check our resident coffee shop, Copper Coin for a casual, but wonderful bite.

2. Shopping

There are a LOT of places downtown to shop, and, if you aren't sure what you're looking for, it may seem a bit overwhelming, so let me break it down for you. For the more fashion-forward moms out there, check out one of the many boutiques that line the streets of downtown. My personal favorites are Brooklyn's and Dress Up, but there are so many more to choose from, like Branch, Spirited, and Fashion Cupcake. If the special lady prefers more unique, artsy gifts, be sure to stop by Made Mercantile. Although still pretty new, Made Mercantile has definitely left its mark. Inside you can find local artists hard at work and shop from a variety of their products. From artwork to soaps, candles, and jewelry, you're sure to find something for your crafty gal. Some of the artists even offer classes if you're looking for a more hands-on experience. Perhaps your mom is like mine and is drowning in stacks of books, but still looking for more to add to her collection, then Foxtale Bookshop and The Sweet Read may be right up her alley. Foxtale is Downtown Woodstock's own small, local bookshop where you can find new releases, as well as some hidden gems. The Sweet Read, also a new addition, focuses on used books and offers several cozy nooks to curl into. They even have their own café to keep you sustained as you explore their shelves for your next favorite read.

3. Dinner and Drinks

The day is coming to a close and you want to celebrate with a delicious meal and some good drinks. Just as there are a plethora of shops, downtown also holds a variety of restaurants and bars. Salt Factory (located right next door to our Woodstock shop btw) has a tavern-style menu with a wide selection of dishes and drinks to choose from. If you're looking for a fresh catch, check out Reel for amazing seafood and a casual, relaxing experience. Rootstock and Vine has plenty of small plates to nibble on as you sip your way through their wine menu. For a cozy, classic Italian meal, try Ipp's Pastaria and Bar and feel as though you're on vacation in the Italian countryside.

4. Dessert

Last, but certainly not least, dessert! If you ask me, dessert is more important than any other meal. It's the best way to close out your night and send yourself to bed for some sweet, sweet dreams. If you're looking for a decadent, European classic, Dulce has an incredible array of handmade gelatos to choose from. (I personally recommend the stracciatella!) Have a party that never agrees on anything, ever, Kilwin's has a variety of delicious chocolates and candies. You're sure to please even the pickiest of parties. If you're still full from dinner, try Tiny Bubbles for a refreshing bubble tea and some sweet treats. My go-to is always their macarons, but they also offer edible cookie dough and several chocolate-covered goodies. Or, if none of these hit your sweet tooth, you can always come and visit us here at Pie Bar Woodstock and stock up on some tasty slices. (Is it cheating to put ourselves on the list?... Nah!) Be sure to try our special Pie Inspired flavor for the month of May, Strawberry Shortcake based on the recipe from Lauretta Jean's Pie Bakery in Portland, Oregon!

Whatever you decide to do this Mother's Day, whether it be going out or staying in, know that anytime you spend with your mom is special and will hold a place in her heart always.

To all the wonderful moms out there,

We love you!

Happy Mother's Day!
