Which Pies Can You Freeze for the Holiday Season?!

Which Pies Can You Freeze for the Holiday Season?!

By Antonio Hunt, Pie Bar Woodstock

Hello one and all, with the holiday season things can oftentimes get hectic! Between shopping for presents and planning for travel, thinking about something like how to store a pie for that trip to Grandma's house can seem like an impossible task. It can be something as simple as fridge space that can throw a wrench in every plan for Christmas dinner, which is why I am here today! I am here to tell you all about what pies on our menu freeze well, so sit back and relax as we dive deep into the menu to see just what pies can handle in the freezer!

Let's start by simply getting right to the point, what pies do we currently carry that freeze well? Thankfully, we have got a bunch!

  • Apple Streusel
  • Bourbon Chocolate Pecan
  • Spiced Oatmeal Cookie
  • Cranberry & Orange Custard
  • Pumpkin Praline
  • Key Lime

These six fantastic flavors all freeze perfectly, allowing them to be simple and easy pies when it comes to travel!

All of these flavors are available to be baked fresh on Christmas Week (just make sure you pre-order because orders close on Friday, December 17th at 9PM)! BUT, if you need them sooner or are making a holiday voyage (aka, roadtripping) freezing is the move a lot of the time!

To freeze:

  • Place in your freezer (wrap in Saran Wrap if possible, but with Key Lime we recommend keeping that one boxed due to the whipped cream topping).
  • When ready to enjoy, thaw the day before in your fridge overnight. Make sure that when you are thawing the Key Lime, you are not cutting corner by thawing this one on the counter!
  • When ready to enjoy, re-crisp in your oven at 350 F for 5 - 10 min. Exception of course, being our friend: the Key Lime Pie (best served cool from the fridge).

Now that we have covered the pies that freeze well, let us go over what pies do not freeze well!

  • Peanut Butter Cream
  • Chocolate Peppermint Cream

Due to the nature of these pies, they aren't the most freezer friendly. However, we will be carrying both of these flavors in the shop through Saturday, December 18th, so if you are looking for those as either slices or whole pies, that will be the last day to call dibs on one before the holidays!!

We at Pie Bar have been carefully designing the menu in a way that if you are traveling for the holidays or simply need fridge space, we have got you covered with having as many flavors that are both delicious and flexible when it comes to storage! From me and everyone at Pie Bar, we all truly hope this helps and we that you have the best. holiday. evar.
