Fun in Marietta

Fun in Marietta

By: Elizabeth Pierson; Pie Bar Marietta

The weather is finally warm enough to venture outside (maybe even a little too warm). Downtown Marietta is one of the best places to explore on a day you're feeling bored. From the parks to the restaurants, there's a wide array of things to do while frolicking downtown.

Glover Park

While this may seem like an obvious choice, it is home to many different things. On the south end of the park, there is a statue of Mr. Glover himself. The area is shaded with lots of foliage as well as park benches and spots of grass to sit in. Across the park is the train set. There is a large train that children love to climb and play on during the day.

Museum of Art

On a hot day when you're feeling restless is the perfect day to go to the Museum of Art. Enjoy tons of unique pieces while also basking in the A/C. My friends and I love to hang out and explore the museum. It's always fun to look at all the new pieces and of course, the environment is always calming and inviting. Located at 30 Atlanta St SE, Marietta, GA 30060.

The Root House

Located at 80 North Marietta Pkwy NW, Marietta, GA 30060, this is one of the oldest surviving houses in Marietta. Take a tour and learn how life was back in 1850 as well as how the house came to reside in the spot it now does. The outside features a garden as well as the outhouse and kitchen. The house itself is a two-story wooden house with a common area, dining area, and bedrooms. You are sure to find something that interests you. Starting June 29th they will have a Summer exhibit on how life was without all the amenities of now.

See a Show at the Strand

Built in 1935, the Strand Theater is home to many shows. They are constantly screening movies, plays, and concerts. The theater resides at 117 N Park Square, Marietta, GA 30060. They closed in 1976 and were later reopened in 2008. If you are interested in seeing a show, you can check either their website, their Facebook, or the box office outside.
