Coffee Talk

Coffee Talk
Nothing goes better together than a slice of pie and a good ole cup of hot coffee (emphasis on the good). That’s why we carry Cool Beans Coffee Roaster’s Pie Bar Blend in our shop! Their Pie Bar Blend is a medium roast, which pairs well with our sweet pies. I’ve never been a huge coffee drinker, yet I find that I can drink their Pie Bar Blend black (both on its own, but also with a sweet pie of my choice).

So what and where is Cool Beans Coffee Roasters? Cool Beans is a local coffee roaster that is located in the Historic Marietta Square. They roast all of their beans in-house. The next time you visit them, be sure to check out what new things they may be roasting!

While we could spend all day chatting our customers’ ears off about all the amazing flavors of sweet and savory pies that we carry in our shop, we thought to introduce our community to some lovely folks from Cool Beans to learn a little bit more about the coffee that we serve.

Kayla with Cool Beans swung by on a Friday for a FREE Coffee Sampling, and taught us all kinds of neat things about Cool Beans.

For instance, our Pie Bar Blend is actually a blend of Brazil and Sumatra, which is how it gets its medium roast flavor – not too dark, but not too light either, pairing well with just about any flavor in our case on a daily basis.

I, not being an intellect of coffee, never quite knew what the significance of that was. However, Kayla was so kind as to teach both our team and our customers a little bit about the different roasts that Cool Beans carries in their shop.

Brazil coffee grows in rich soil called “Terra Roxa”, otherwise known as “Red Earth”, which makes the region perfect for coffee growing. Cool Beans describes Brazil coffee to be chocolate-y, with a medium body: a combination of nutty, sweet, with tones of caramel and a clean finish.

Sumatran coffee, on the other hand, has a fuller body with a spicy finish. Sumatra is the second largest island of the Republic of Indonesia, and their coffee is grown on the volcanic slopes of Mount Leuser. Cool Beans describes Sumatra coffee to be dark, with tones of rich chocolate and a hint of green pepper.

Together, this makes their delicious Pie Bar Blend, which we are proud to serve here at the shop. The next time you swing by for some pie – don’t hesitate to ask for a little sample of our coffee! We serve it in the shop (hot or iced). If you like it so much that you want to take it home and make it a part of your morning routine, we also carry ¾ lb bags of Cool Beans’ Pie Bar Blend in our shop! You don’t have to worry about grinding the beans either – just ask one of our FOH Staffers to grind ‘em for you.

It was a pleasure learning about Cool Beans Coffee. To stay in the loop as to when our next Coffee Sampling event will be, you can sign up for our newsletter on our homepage for our latest event updates!

'Til then, keep calm & coffee on.
